03. Cardboard Box
And your authority carries no weight
And I can’t walk anymore under your umbrella
It’s too easy for you to tie things down
The world looks up and away from all it should
Looking into my reflection for answers to my questions
Why can’t I run away, run away?
Why can’t I fall away, fall away?
And it happens that the world is closer
Than you think, than we think
There’s a story that’s been told
Over and over and it’s starting to get worn out
But you insist upon repeating
04. Red Light
There’s nothing more frustrating than being stopped on the corner
When the light turns red, and watching you
Walk to the other side without looking back or knowing I was there
Trying to yell out your name, but I forgot
I never learned it in the first place
Too bad I’ll never see you again, can’t write or call you
You’re my elusive friend, won’t get to know you or your favorite color
But maybe in the future
Kind of funny that it works that way, never know from day to day
Just what I’m going to say or if I’ll get there
Watching you across the street, wondering if we’ll ever meet
I should just pick up my feet and run after you
As the cars pass by, I see you getting small against the sky
The clouds are caving in and crying for the friend I’ll never meet
05. The Layer Beneath
(Instrumental)
06. Night And Day
Why is it that we need some time alone
Just to recover from what happens when we’re together?
I feel I’m on a road to nowhere and taking you with me
Slowly we cascade from the sky into a world of greys and uncertainty
Going back is not our problem, just how are we going to survive the fall
And we’ve always been seen at some time, at some place
But never were we together
Together she is alone, apart she is at peace
And as you step from my car into the rain
I’ll serve my jacket as your bridge
Somehow I know your back is the last thing I’ll ever see
Did you stop to wonder what I think of you
When you walk the other way?
Some people never change and you are certainly no exception
07. Draw The Line
You’ve said way too much
You’ve been here way too long
You’ve done way too much
It’s gone way too far
Where do you draw the line?
Do you draw it in the sand?
Do you put it just in front of where you stand?
Do you draw it where it can be easily erased?
Do you put it just anyplace?
I don’t know
I’ve seen way too much
I’ve said way too much
I’ve heard way too much
It’s gone way too far
And we’ve done all we can do
08. Farewell
(Instrumental)
09. Caught A Glimpse
The way she looked at me, she saw straight through me
The way she bit her lip, I could have told her anything
The way she opened up to me, she forced me to open up to her
I caught a glimpse of her soul
I caught a glimpse of her soul, she showed me everything
The way she said “no thank you”, it almost crushed me
The way she closed her eyes, she nearly disappeared
It’s the little things that make the difference
Between having everything and having absolutely nothing
10. So She Thought
The images are only as beautiful as she believes them to be
And there is something about her very best friend
That makes him her enemy
There is a certain randomness to that which surrounds
She follows the path, careful not to step upon the cracks
Hopping on one foot never proved to last for very long
But making it through the squares was always enough
I watch her sob in her private room and I heard her cry aloud
For the common things she’ll never know and the life she’ll never have
She always needed to have her connections
Falling slowly makes one the fool much longer
Stepping through the door upon the feet of her shadow
As the wind sails by, so do her thoughts
Step one begins at the side of the bed
She circles to mimic the world around her
Tripping over the discard pile and getting tangled in the web
Woven for her to eventually break free
11. Everything Is The Same, At Least Until Tomorrow
I can’t see you from here
I can’t feel the way you do
There’s a time, and there’s a place for everything
Reassure me
Make a wish and share your dreams
Time take your toll on me
If the earth should stop and throw me
I know it can’t be long because tomorrow never comes
Please release me
Please hold my hand
Just a little tighter, just a little longer
Dry your eyes, but keep on crying
I know we’ll make it
We’re under the same sky
12. Green Fields
